Whether you're quick as a

, it's time to head for the Library to order your Folkmanis Puppets. Our annual puppet sale runs from September 1 through October 31. The beautifully-made puppets make great gifts, and with over 200 to choose from, can reinforce particularly-loved children's stories, as well. Puppets come in all sizes from tiny finger puppets to extra-large "companion" size--great to hug. And lots of inexpensive finger puppets can lead to creative fun, with puppet shows for the whole family. Ask at the Circulation Desk to see the new catalog, and place your order soon. Puppets will arrive in time for holiday giving.
Miss Linda is Leaving Us!
Longtime Youth Services Director and Assistant Library Director Linda Heddinger will retire at the end of October. We are seeking your fond memories of children’s department activities for a remembrance book for her.

Youth Services Director Position Reopened
Our Youth Services Director is retiring after 28 years and we are looking for a top-notch person to fill this position. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative library and community leader. Is this you or someone you know?
POSITION: YOUTH SERVICES DIRECTOR
REPORTS TO: Director
This is a hands-on position working with children ages 6 months through high school, as well as developing programs and managing youth collections in all formats. This individual handles reference work and reader advisory for all patrons, but especially for children and young adults. The Youth Services Director establishes and maintains liaisons with schools and other related community groups and organizations, and is the library’s voice for children and young adults in the community.
REQUIREMENTS: MLS from an ALA accredited school and at least five years of experience in youth services, including supervisory experience. This person must work well with all types of people, but especially children, must be able to supervise a small staff and, must be able to develop programs that will appeal to youth of all ages. Basic Microsoft software computer skills and an understanding of and ability to use social networking software are essential.
This individual must be able to work some evenings and weekends. This position requires bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting 50 pounds.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Development and provision of services and activities for children and young people through high school age with the assistance of a small staff. Management of juvenile collections. Development of the budget for juvenile materials and programs. Management of publicity and public relations for the juvenile collection and programs. Supervision of some fund-raising for this department. Preparation of related reports.
SECONDARY DUTIES: Answers in-depth reference questions as needed. Must be familiar with and be able to help patrons with all library activities. Prepares or supervises preparation of grants, as necessary. Participates in professional organizations, as time allows.
OTHER DUTIES: As assigned by Library Director
SALARY RANGE: $40,000 to $50,000 annually, depending on experience, plus generous benefits package.
